3 Days of Learning, Hands-on Practice & Building the Biochar Network
Thai Biochar Academy 2026 has officially wrapped up, held from September 10-12, 2026 in Saraburi, Thailand.
The three-day program brought together participants from diverse backgrounds to explore biochar the basics through production processes to applications in both agriculture and beyond.
Throughout the Academy, participants had the opportunity to learn, practice, exchange experiences, and connect with people working and interested in biochar across different sectors.
DAY 1 | Discover Biochar & Visit RegenSoil
The first day began with an introduction to the fundamentals of Biochar through:
– Biochar 101
– Biochar & Soil Health
– RegenSoil Workshop & Tour
Participants explored the biochar production process, its biochar application as soilless growing media, and observed microorganisms under a microscope.
DAY 2 | Biochar Production & Agricultural Applications
Day 2 focused on practical learning:
– Fundamentals of Pyrolysis
– Hands-on Biochar Production using the Kon-Tiki kiln and 2-level Kon-Tiki kiln
– Basic Biochar Property Analysis
– Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of Biochar
– Insights into community development and carbon credit opportunities from the experiences of BiocharLife and Wongphai.
DAY 3 | Biochar Production & Applications Beyond Agriculture
– Hands-on experience with different closed-system biochar kilns, including Retort kiln, TLUD kiln, and Condo kiln.
– Biochar applications in engineering and concrete materials, highlighting the potential of Biochar beyond soil and agriculture.
